Dr. William H. Jennings, MD, FACP

 
 

Dr. Jennings is a native of Hutchinson, and has lifelong family ties to the Pratt area. He is a graduate of the University of Kansas School of Medicine, and completed an Internal Medicine residency and Hematology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Jennings is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the subspecialty Boards in Hematology and Medical Oncology. His additional areas of professional interest include bleeding and clotting disorders, medical ethics, and palliative care

Dr. Jennings was in the private practice of Hematology and Oncology in Greeley, Colorado from 1976 to 1988. Since 1988, he has been a member of the faculty at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine.

 

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he is co-director of the Mid-west Hemophilia Center in Kansas City, and Chairman of the Ethics Committee at Truman Medical Center. He has been in practice at Pratt Regional Medical Center since 1997 and joined the Cancer Center of Kansas group in 2002. He is a member of the American College of Physicians, The American Society of Hematology, The American Society of Clinical Oncology, and The International Society of Hematology.

EDUCATION – TEACHING:
Docent – UMKC School of Medicine (Gold Unit)
This role is one of teacher and advisor to medical students which provides continuity and ongoing mentorship for these students through the last four years of medical school. The docent supervises a group of twelve students, consisting of three students each in years three through six of the UMKC School of Medicine six-year program. The docent is with the students weekly in an Internal Medicine continuity clinic, and for two months per year on an inpatient internal medicine hospital service. In addition, the docent’s role in conjunction with the educational assistant requires at a minimum quarterly reassessment of the student’s progress, individual student supervision and curriculum management.

Clinical one-month elective in Hematology/Medical Oncology (one to two students per month in years four-six). Three to four months per year, 1988 to present. Course #340R, 341R
